Volunteer

at The Brown Homestead

We are building a volunteer network of enthusiastic, civic-minded individuals who share our belief in the importance of community connection, holistic education, innovative thinking, vibrant culture, and that history exists on a continuum.

Learn how you can get involved in and connect with us! We would love to meet with you to discuss how we can cultivate the best volunteer experience within your areas of interest.

The Brown Homestead is seeking volunteers who are passionate about celebrating Niagara’s rich heritage and preserving its future.

Volunteer Opportunities

Benefits of Volunteering with Us

Here at the Brown Homestead, we believe that organizations thrive when the staff and volunteers are provided opportunities for growth, creativity and meaningful intellectual contributions. We believe in the “campfire rule,” and we wish to ensure that anyone who works for and with The Brown Homestead leaves us better off than we found them.

Vibrant Culture

  • Volunteer perks are fun and educational events organized by The Brown Homestead team exclusively for our volunteers. These are opportunities for volunteers to connect with the TBH team and learn more about heritage conservation, the Niagara community and its history. In the past our volunteers have gone on guided hikes through Short Hills Provincial Park, a walking tour of the historic Power Glen neighbourhood, and even tried their hand at curling!

Volunteer perks are optional to attend and are available to everyone who volunteers with us.

  • The Volunteer Voice is our quarterly newsletter to keep volunteers connected with everything we have going on at The Brown Homestead and upcoming volunteer opportunities. You may even get some insider insight on some cool projects we're working on before anyone else!

  • Designed to thank our volunteers who dedicate so much of their time and effort to our work, our annual volunteer dinner is one of our favourite nights of the year. It is a time for us to get together, look back at all the accomplishments the team has made over the past year and celebrate our achievements through a delicious shared meal.

  • All volunteers at The Brown Homestead receive ongoing training to develop and maintain the skills needed to make the most impact in their roles. Training includes a general orientation session as well as ongoing role-specific training opportunities.

How to Volunteer

Start by completing an application form expressing your interests and outlining your experience.

Step 1: Fill out an application

Let’s get to know each other better! When you fill out an application form you will be asked to select a date for a brief meet and greet, with the option to connect in person, over the phone, or via Zoom. This will provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions and for us to get a better sense of what volunteer opportunities would be the best fit for you!

Step 2: Schedule a Meet & Greet

Once you have completed your application, met with the team and are ready to get started, you will be invited to attend an orientation session. Our first orientation for 2024 is set for Thursday, March 7th, 2024!

Step 3: Come to an Orientation

We would love to have you join our volunteer team and we hope to see you out at The Brown Homestead soon!
